Retired Racehorse Project Discontinues Publication of Off-Track Thoroughbred Magazine

November 16, 2023

After eight years in print, the Retired Racehorse Project today announced that it will no longer produce its award-winning quarterly publication, Off-Track Thoroughbred Magazine. The forthcoming winter issue will be the last.

Published since 2015 in partnership with the editorial team behind The Horse: Your Guide to Equine Health Care/TheHorse.com (now a subsidiary of Equine Network), Off-Track Thoroughbred Magazine played an integral role in establishing the RRP as a household name and a go-to source for reliable information for off-track Thoroughbred owners and members of the aftercare industry.

“It has been a true honor and pleasure to work with the RRP team to give shape to the concept of a magazine featuring these exceptional horses, and it’s been a delightful experience working on all 33 editions,” said Stephanie Church, Editorial Director at The Horse. “We look forward to continuing to work with the RRP to publish the annual Thoroughbred Makeover event program and rulebook and help meet their various content needs.”

This decision was reached after careful and extensive consideration on behalf of the RRP board and staff with particular concern for prudent use of organizational resources while avoiding any compromise to the mission of the RRP. In addition to the program and rulebook the RRP will continue to partner with The Horse to produce no-cost educational content published with greater frequency to its newly overhauled Educational Library at www.theRRP.org.

“The discontinuation of Off-Track Thoroughbred Magazine does not diminish the RRP’s commitment to providing high-quality content and resources for our community,” said RRP Executive Director, Kirsten Green. “We’re cognizant of the fact that the majority of the people we serve are not turning to print media for information the way they used to. This change increases accessibility while operating on a production schedule that offers greater consistency and more flexibility with timing and topics.”

Digital advertising opportunities are available in the Education Library and print opportunities will continue in the annual Thoroughbred Makeover rulebook and event program. Learn more at www.theRRP.org.
